Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Painshill landscape, this engaging activity invites families to get closer to nature and uncover the fascinating creatures living beneath the water’s surface.
Equipped with nets and identification guides, children can explore the pond’s hidden world, spotting everything from wriggling tadpoles to shimmering water insects. Along the way, they’ll learn about freshwater habitats, life cycles, and the importance of protecting these delicate ecosystems.

Survival Explorers | April 02
Gather your team and head outdoors for Den Building at Painshill – a hands-on woodland adventure designed to bring families and explorers together in nature. Set within the beautiful historic landscape, this interactive activity invites children and adults alike to work as a team to design and build their own natural shelter.
Using branches, leaves and other materials found on the forest floor, families will learn how to choose the perfect spot, create a sturdy structure and test their den-building skills in our newly built den site. It’s a fantastic way to encourage creativity, communication and problem-solving while enjoying the fresh air.
Fun, active and full of outdoor exploration, Survival Explorers is the perfect opportunity to unplug, reconnect and make lasting memories together at Painshill.
Bug Life Explorers April 08
Get ready to uncover the tiny wonders of the natural world with Bug Life Explorers at Painshill. This fun, family-friendly outdoor adventure invites children and grown-ups to head off the beaten path and discover the incredible insects living all around us.
Armed with pots and identification guides, families can go bug hunting in some of the best natural habitats in Painshill – from leaf litter to logs and low-hanging branches. We will try gentle tree shaking to see what bugs might be hiding above and log lifting to see what might be hiding below, plus we’ll explore why these environments make the perfect homes for beetles, spiders, woodlice and more.
Hands-on, educational and full of fresh-air fun, Bug Life Explorers is a fantastic way for families to connect with nature, learn about important ecosystems, and see Painshill from a whole new perspective.

Set against the breathtaking landscapes of Painshill, this immersive day is perfect for anyone looking to develop their skills, gain fresh creative inspiration, and build confidence behind the camera. Whether you’re using a digital camera or your smartphone, you’re warmly welcome.
Spend the day exploring the park’s diverse scenery — from the tranquil lake and elegant bridges to enchanting follies and vibrant seasonal gardens. With expert guidance, you’ll be shown the best locations and viewpoints, helping you see familiar landscapes in new and exciting ways.
Your tutor, Ashley Gardner, is an experienced photography instructor who provides hands-on support throughout the day. Through practical exercises and personalised feedback, you’ll refine essential techniques, including composition, light, and focus – and learn how to use them creatively.
Bird Song Walk | May 03
Begin your morning with a short introduction to bird identification before heading out into Painshill’s landscape before the gates opens,. Guided by our expert, you will learn how to identify birds both by song and by sight, discovering the rich variety of species that call Painshill home.
20% of ticket sales from the Painshill Bird Song Walk will be donated to the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), supporting vital bird conservation work.
