Having always been in awe of the seeming everlasting beauty of period properties and realising the intricate relationship between alleviating damp-related issues and the preservation of such properties led me to pursue a career as a certificated damp and timber surveyor after my university education.
THE DAMP SPECIALIST
Working for various SMEs over the years, I’ve noticed a widespread problem with the damp industry. That being the vast commercial incentive of contractors to prescribe waterproofing treatments as a one-size-fits-all treatment for damp, costing customers hefty sums in lieu of seeking to find the root cause of any given damp issue.
My solution for that problem was creating an independent surveying and consulting company which allows us to put our clients’ best interests at the top of our business obligations, in addition to providing a personalised service and invaluable expertise with all our surveys.
WHAT IS DAMP?
‘Damp’ is a general term which refers to the presence of excess moisture or water within the structure of a property, and this can manifest in various ways, such as damage to the plaster or paint, mould growth, and rotting of wood, and can also have negative effects on the health of the occupants. Dampness in buildings can be caused by many factors, such as external defects, leaks in plumbing, poor ventilation, damp rising from the ground up and many more.
It is therefore of paramount importance to diagnose and address the root cause of the damp issue before attempting to treat the symptoms, i.e., the damp wall. Given the causes for the damp vary so greatly, the remedial work might therefore require an array of different tradespeople to address the issue most effectively.

This is why we developed a Network of Trusted Contractors who we can recommend to our customers for the different aspects of the remedial work. All our reports include an instruction of works for any remedial action which can be used to approach any contractor either self-selected by our clients or from our network.
